Join us at the opening celebration of the Philadelphia Assembled exhibition at the Philadelphia Art Museum on September 9, 2017. A photograph of Sharmus Outlaw is featured as part of the exhibition on the organizing time line, commemorating her visit to Philly in 2015 to collect information about trans rights, sex worker rights and HIV policy that formed the basis for the Nothing About Us Without Us report. This report is the first report created by sex worker leadership to address HIV policy nationwide. The film Prostitution Free Zone, that documents the advocacy of Sharmus and many other leaders from the District of Columbia, will be shown in the Museum as well.

The opening celebration on Saturday September 9 is free and includes an Open House 10 a.m.–4:00 p.m. (Family-friendly activities, artist-led workshops, seed-sharing, poetry reading, and storytelling), a Community Celebration 4:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. (Experience the energy of Philadelphia Assembled with live music, a featured performance by sound artist Moor Mother, and light food and refreshments) and  Assemble and Illuminate at8:00 p.m. Gather in the park across the street to see The Illuminator Collective light up the Perelman Building. RSVP to philamuseum.org/phlevents. All ages are welcome.

Philadelphia Assembled will be displayed in the Museum from September 9, 2017 - December 10, 2017 and is the first exhibition of its kind at the Museum. Philadelphia Assembled joins art and civic engagement. The project explores Philadelphia’s changing landscape and tells a story of radical community building and active resistance. We very much thank advocates at PhillyRUA for ensuring that Sharmus Outlaw has been included in the exhibition.
